About Us

Transforming Stories into Action

That is why we exist.

Our Story

Kiryandongo Video Advocates (kVA)

At Kiryandongo Video Advocates (KVA), we believe that every community has the knowledge, resilience, and potential to shape its own future. Yet many people, particularly refugees, women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups continue to face barriers that prevent their voices from being heard and their rights fully realized.

We work to amplify community voices, strengthen local capacities, and promote inclusive development through storytelling, advocacy, education, and community engagement. Our goal is to ensure that the experiences and aspirations of the people we serve influence decisions, inspire action, and contribute to lasting social change.

Communities understand their own challenges better than anyone else, but too often they lack the platforms and opportunities to share their experiences and influence the decisions that affect their lives. We believe that sustainable development begins when communities are empowered to tell their own stories, engage in meaningful dialogue, and actively participate in shaping solutions.

By combining media with advocacy and community participation, we help bridge the gap between communities, service providers, policymakers, and development partners, ensuring that local voices are at the heart of social transformation.

Our work is built on participation, collaboration, and evidence-based advocacy. We engage communities through documentary filmmaking, participatory video, photography, digital storytelling, community dialogues, film screenings, stakeholder engagement, training, and capacity building.

These approaches allow us to document lived experiences, raise awareness, promote accountability, strengthen local leadership, and inspire action. We also work in partnership with community groups, government institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners to deliver sustainable and inclusive solutions.

Our programs focus on six interconnected areas:

  • Media and Storytelling – Producing documentaries, photography, and digital content that amplify community voices and inspire change.
  • Community Justice and Advocacy – Promoting human rights, civic participation, accountability, and inclusive decision-making.
  • Protection and Inclusion—Advancing the rights, dignity, and well-being of refugees, women, children, youth, and persons with disabilities.
  • Economic Empowerment – Supporting entrepreneurship, vocational skills, financial literacy, and sustainable livelihoods.
  • Education and Scholarship Support – Expanding access to education through scholarships, mentorship, and career guidance.
  • Climate Change and Environmental Action – Promoting climate resilience, environmental conservation, and sustainable community practices.

Everything we do is guided by one simple belief: lasting change happens when communities are empowered to lead it. We don’t just work for communities; we work alongside them, creating opportunities for people to share their stories, build their capacities, and shape a more inclusive, resilient, and equitable future.
